Portable theatre, site-specific performance
15โ20 minutes, up to 10 people at a time
Caravan, interior design by Sijben Rosa
Merge Festival, Better Bankside, Vault Festival, Rye Arts Festival, Houghton Festival
I bought an empty caravan and asked Dutch artist Sijben Rosa to design the interior. From the outside it was an ordinary caravan; inside, the space looked like a swimming pool without water. Up to ten people could come in at a time.
“Welcomed into the most awkward caravan for 15 mins with a smiley psycho. FANTASTIC. Thoroughly enjoyed.” โ audience member

The audience sat inside the set, close enough to touch the performers, and watched short pieces of around fifteen minutes: funny, absurd and sometimes uncomfortable. The caravan was never just a venue. Everything was written for that particular room, and the closeness shaped the work: what you could get away with, how long a silence could hold, whether a joke landed or died. We towed it to festivals and to places where theatre does not usually turn up, and the room came with us.
