2024–2025 · Talent development programme · Het Veerhuis, Rotterdam
In 2024 I was selected through an open call for the talent programme at Het Veerhuis in Rotterdam: a year financial support, coaching and a place to work.
It was the first time I called myself a writer. Until then I had made things and performed them, and writing was something that happened on the way to a performance. At Het Veerhuis it became the work itself. I wrote prose, and more importantly I started asking what my own perspective as a writer actually is.
It also changed what I write about. My Turkish father, whom I met when I was eighteen, and the Dutch surroundings I grew up in had never really entered my work. At Het Veerhuis I stopped treating that as a private matter and started using it as material.
In November 2025 we presented the result at the newly openend Veerhuis, Rotterdam.
